The Killers take all of the power behind "Four Winds", all of the urgency and emotion, and replace it with synth. Needless to say, I'm not impressed. I think seeing them in concert put things into perspective for me, I no longer gobble up anything and everything they put out. I still listen to their albums occasionally, but I'm much less of a fan than I used to be.

I am a fan of both of these bands, who love to feud, but they both are awful live. Both The Killers and Fall Out Boy have severely disappointed me in concert, but maintain to please me on record.

Concert Review - The Killers @ The Warfield, 12 December 2008

wayy overdue, I know, but I just dug out my notes from my desk last night.

I have major denial issues when someone warns me that one of my favourite bands are horrible live. I therefore proceeded not to heed the numerous warnings which I had received about the Killers, and went enthusiastically to their December 12th Warfield show.

I was so disheartened by the performance, I immediately listened to Hot Fuss on my mp3 player right after the concert to remind myself why I love them so much.
It’s hard, sometimes, to be objective when it comes to bands that you personally adore.

But, I’ll say it.

The Killers suck live.

Let’s recap the pleasant parts of the evening:

1. Mark sang surprisingly pleasant background vocals on “For Reasons Unknown”.
2. Dave busted out impressive guitar work on “When You Were Young”.
3. Ronnie was the best of the four, which isn’t really saying anything, because his performance was decent at best. Actually, come to think of it, the best of the performers was actually the guy playing sax in the background.

Brandon, oh Brandon,
You should have been a dancer, with all of that fancy footwork which you displayed on stage. What happened to your voice? Horrid, horrid.

The least appalling song of the set was “Losing Touch”, which Brandon sang decently, and the band managed to actually capture that excellent, powerful, soaring sound which can be found on record.

Brandon ruined “Mr. Brightside” for me. He barely sung it, letting the audience screech the entire thing. Doesn’t that song mean anything to you, sir? Am I the only one who thinks that it is a significant stride in art and should be displayed proper respect?

Mr. Flowers abandoned his strangely high-yet-flat vocals and went for a more subtle, touching approach by playing “Smile Like You mean It” on piano and singing in an ostensibly sincere way that just came off as another epic failure on his part as a performer. I wasn’t moved at all.

The worst part of the show? The crowd ate the entire thing up.

Oh, the glories of commercialism.

Do yourself a favour. Save your money. Don't be stupid and blindly unwilling to face the truth like I was. Do not go see the Killers live. It may just ruin them for you, permanently. At least I can still listen to their albums without being angry. I can look past their shitty performance, but I don't know if you can.

NEW KILLERS SONG! (REPOST)

it's called "A Crippling Blow" and it rocks.

this is what I've been waiting for. quality a la Spaceman or Neon Tiger. aggressive bass, great vocals that DON'T make Brandon sound like a 890's pop diva and an insanely catchy keyboard chord progression. the sound is space-y without being wussy, the guys have taken a page out of Bowie's book. and I approve. whole-fucking-heartedly.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT. I knew I liked it from the first couple of seconds. the title is very appropriate. now I don't even have to force myself to like Human (even though it HAS grown on me). this song gives me hope that the review I read about this record being better than both Hot Fuss and Sam's Town is true. this song draws the strengths from each record: the incredible synth sound that made us fall in love with the Killers and the more refined and mature songwriting that came with their later work.

I am a huge Killers fan. I woke up two hours early to make sure that I could get tickets, and I did, and they sold out a minute later. I own three Killers shirts, all of their albums and their posters are all over my wall at home too. so fuck you, people who think that sharing leaked songs online is stealing. I love The Killers. end of story.

the video is a bit strange...it's essentially just them playing in the desert with a random wild cat showing up here and there...but it does get artsy sometimes too

The Killers perform "Human" + "Spaceman" on SNL

this song is growing on me. every day I hate it less and less. this live version is a lot cooler than the studio one, because it's so much more synth and so much less pop-crap. by the time their October 21st Warfield show rolls by, I will probably love this song. and I don't hate myself for that prospect. The Killers are one of my all time favourite bands after all, I've gotta be somewhat biased in their favour.

UPDATE:

here is the video for Spaceman. this song rocks so much. this performance gives me chills it's so good. THIS IS THE BAND THAT WE KNOW AND LOVE! ah! I love it so much. now I don't even have to force myself to like "Human", this song makes up for it so much. this performance emulates the song's brilliance a lot clearer than this one.



Mark's bass line reminds me of the guitars in "7 nation army" by The White Stripes. good stuff.

THE KILLERS! ON TOUR!

I've actually known this since two nights ago, when I was reading Guardian on the train home from the Spoon concert, but here's an official post. I will catch these sexy beasts at the Warfield on October 21st, buy tickets HERE for that show on Sunday morning.I've already forgiven them for "Human", because I've been waiting for them to tour for AGES, especially since I heard of the new record in the works. "Neon Tiger" and "Spaceman" are actually really fantastic, so I'm not doubting a kick ass third record. Listen to them HERE

They only have a handful of tour dates thus far (see below) but they will most probably tour after their new record is released. Day and Age hits the shelves November 24th.

Spaceman is so very Hot Fuss, but I kind of prefer Neon Tiger. they're both lovely tunes though, and Spaceman has great tempo, a fantastic bass line.

The Killers are so great. They're gonna make such a major comeback with this new record, I can feel it. Not that I think they had sophomore slump or anything, I love Sam's Town, but that seems to be the consensus among music critics. Anyhow, yeah, keep your eyes (er, ears) peeled for new material from these talented Vegas boys!
