Tarantino is a well known cultural remixer, he's said as much in interviews over the past decade or so. And Jimi Paige stole the riff from Stairway from a folk artist he toured with in the 70s. And the influence of The Hidden Fortress and hero mythology are clear in Star Wars and Lucas proudly declares them.
Great find though, I love cultural deconstructionism like this. Have you seen "RIP: A Remix Manifesto"? It's a chronicle of copyright laws regarding sampling, starting with Girl Talk and moving international from China to Brazil. Very interesting.
