Well. My absolute favourite record store find thus far has been 'Journal For Plague Lovers', which I'd imagine isn't half as flashy as anyone else's, but it was very important to me. I had spent months trying to get it shipped to my house and Amazon didn't have it in stock, somehow, and it was not yet released here in the US. So I had just been retreating back to 'The Holy Bible' day in and day out. Then one rainy day, I went to my local record store and lo and behold: there it was.

Marshall Tucker Band's greatest hits from '78. The song "Can't You See" has always been one of my favorite songs of all time. I was just looking through some random stacks at the Great House of Guitars..and there it was, in it's worn purple/maroon sleeve. The record itself? Looked like nobody had every played it. Price? $4. Hells yes. Guess what I listen to every day?

I don't really listen to albums, but I was in New York probably seven or eight years ago and I came across this really rad record store that had absolutely EVERYTHING, including this crazy hippie dude who knew all these underground bands.

Anyway, I found a Bangles record signed by my mother, who was graduating from college that night. It was the absolute perfect gift, but then, like the forgetful genius I am, I left the record on the bus.

I meant to say that the record was signed by Belinda for my mother, who was graduating from college that night.

I'm sorry.

My favorite Record Store find would have to be Is This It with the Colin Lane First Edition Cover. I'm a big Strokes fan and that vinyl was nearly impossible to find. I would check ebay and all my local record stores including the one i work at, but even my boss couldnt find one so i had lost abit of hope. Then my mother called me sometime after that to tell me she was pregnant and wanted me to come to Washington to visit (I Live in California). So i pack up my things and i stay with my family for a week. During the week while she was off at a baby shower, i drove to Portland with my friend for something fun to do. After we had lunch we were walking around the city and i rememberd Jackpot records was amazing so we found it and checked to see how different it was. And it was seriously like the store went black and a beam of light shined upon the middle of the store. Is This It just sitting in a bin with other Strokes album. I was dumbfounded haha so anyways, When i stopped looking the Album pretty much found me :)

Rory's story is really cool. My dad signed all of his records. To keep track of them, I guess. I don't find anything shocking these days as everything that would stick out for me is over priced. Garage sales is where I usually find the goods.
I have a few rare items such as Rogue Wave's "Out of the Shadow" with a different cover before they signed on to Sub Pop, but that was at a concert.
My first time going to a record store that wasn't a Best Buy was a big deal to me. A store that had EVERY Pixies album blew my mind. If they didn't have it, they could order it for you! I guess my best find was when I got Radiohead's OK Computer. MTV played Paranoid Andriod every day. I went out to get it the album, but it wasn't out in the US yet. Luckily, the record store had the import! I felt like I had something amazing no one else could have...for a week or so.

Well, there aren't any record stores around here, let alone music stores (my options are Target, Borders, and Best Buy...none of which, I discovered this past month, carry Adam Green! So I'm done with that. Gotta get out of the suburbs!). But I like looking through my parents' old stuff. My mom's a huge Beatles fan, while my dad has stuff like Metallica and Tool, yet still has a love for Norah Jones. So that's always fun. I don't necessarily always find stuff I like in their collections, but it's nice (and odd) to explore what my parents used to or still do listen to.

This past record store day I went with my mom to a theater in downtown San Diego, called The Center, that was emptied out purposely for Record Store Day. There was probably over 50,000 records and suprisingly a lot of them were originals. My favorite find was probably an original UK version of The Smiths, THE QUEEN IS DEAD. I was really excited that I found it, and it made it even better because the guy who sold it to me was arab and when he found out I was too he knocked down the price. Even though I was really happy to have found it I decided to give it to my cousin, because he helped me get into The Smiths.

Rory found a Go-gos record signed by Belinda. There is no one in the Bangles named Belinda.
