The Strokes Post #616 (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!)

this is fucking incredible. I heard it on my lunch break today and went insane

I love every bit of this song. I am not going to dissect it or tell you why. I just will tell you to listen to it LOUDLY on repeat with headphones on, like I'm doing now. also, I have a very strong feeling that Angles is going to be my favourite Strokes album. this song is perfect.

I FUCKING LOVE YOU JULIAN CASABLANCAS.

lyrics:

Slip back out of whack at your best
It's a nightmare
So I'm joining the army
Know how folks back out,
I still call
Will you hate for me now?
We got the righteous advice to use it
Got everything but you can just choose it
I won't tie me a puppet on a string
Don't go that way I'll wait for you
And I'm tired of all your friends
They're still at your door
And I won't, I better call you
So long my friend and adversary
But I will call you
Get dressed jump out of bed and do it best
Are you ok?
I've been out around this town
Everybody's been singing the same song for ten years
I'll wait for you Will you wait for me too?
And they sacrifice their lives
In the land of our closed eyes
I've been saying we're beaten down,
I won't say it again
So long, my friend
The sorry embrace
Don't go that way I'll wait for you
i'm tired of all your friends
Knocking down your door
Get up in the morning, give it your all
So long my friend and adversary
Won’t you wait for you?

The lyrics are similar to the lyrics from a few songs on First impressions and room on fire.

The tune is certainly great, but honestly, the lyrics are kind of mediocre.

Sooooo good!! It's so Strokesy, I can't get enough of it. Almost makes me forget The White Stripes just called it quits. Almost.

i LOVE it, EXCEPT the chords on the chorus. really?? they've never played such bland, overdone progressions ever.

Still, I love the song.

I'm glad you loved it, I knew I was going to fall in love with it from the second I heard the opening riffs. I can see the Thin Lizzy influence Julian mentioned a while back.

Absolute perfection.

P.S. 7 inch for Under Cover of Darkness should be out on Record Store Day! :)

The lyrics are similar to those on is this it as well. THEY MAKE PEOPLE WAIT 5 YEARS AND THEY CAN'T EVEN COME UP WITH NEW LYRICS.
WTF.

^maybe they intended them to be similar? idk, ive read of some people comparing them to last nite "been in town for just fifteen minutes now" as if it was an intentional parallel. even if not, though, julian's lyrics have never been classically poetic. it should hardly be surprising.

THE MUSIC IS FUCKING GREAT.

Radiohead is better than these guys.
