Classic Track Thursday

The Velvet Underground - I'm Waiting for the Man [mp3]

one of the greatest tracks ever, from such an incredibly solid debut album.

the reason I'm posting this is because I bought my brother an ipod a few days ago on the condition that he raid my itunes and take some of my music beyond the Strokes...anyhow, he was being lazy so I had to do the work for him and when I said I was loading the VU onto his itunes he was all confused and all I had to do was play this song (which he recognized) and say was "yo, it's the song Bowie sings in Almost Famous". because that is one of our favourite scenes, when that guy screams "IT'S BOWIE!!!!" hahahhahaha good stuff.

the Velvet Underground owns you. that's all you need to know.

PS helloooo Pierre Fraiture.

PPS listen to White Light/White Heat under some sort of inebriation. trust me, it will be a monumental trip.

Beatles vs. Velvets

I once had an argument with a friend in which I was adamant with my claim that The Velvet Underground were JUST as talented as The Beatles, only wayy more underrated. I still stand by this claim today. personally, I actually like The Velvet Underground more than The Beatles.

and as I listen to Loaded for the 34272398492th time, I am angered at why it's not as popular as Abbey Road. two great albums, one from a British band, one from an American one; both bands hailed alongside the sexual revolution, drugs, and pop art a la Andy Warhol. both albums are incredibly influential and a joy to listen to from start to finish. both albums were loved by critics and fans, and continue to be popular today among music enthusiasts. they were released very closely together, nearing the end of each band's career (Abbey Road was released in '69, Loaded in '70), marking the strong musicianship of these great bands, even when strife was abundant amongst the band.

now, compare:

The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun [mp3]

vs.
The Velvet Underground -Who Loves the Sun [mp3]

even though George is my favourite Beatle, I still like the VU tune better. what do you think?

PS Moe Tucker >>>>> Ringo Starr. but I will concede that Abbey Road has better album art...

new video by the Last Shadow Puppets

for "Standing Next to Me":

they look great, as always =)

the Sex Pistols denied their punk-ness. wow, I don't know what to say. I've always associated the Pistols with Punk. now I have to redefine my entire existence.

there isn't very much new music news on a Sunday morning, so I'll just introduce a cool indie band I like, Oh No! Oh My!, from Texas. visit them on MYSPACE

they're working on a new record right now, so they probably won't be touring for another few months

Oh No! Oh My! - Walk in the Park [mp3]

also, some appropriate VU:
