thanks a million, klein! I've made a youtube video to ease the sharing of this gem.
so, Jules sounds great, he even says what his favourite Strokes album is--Room on Fire (!) I love what he says about Is This It =)
and mentions three of his favourite Strokes songs--Red Light, I'll Try Anything Once and You Only Live Once...the last one, I think is his absolute favourite. he started saying something about it being super profound, and then stopped himself short, knowing the repercussions which inevitably would have ensued if he had continued.
all brilliant, of course, any song he would have chosen would have been a great choice BECAUSE THE STROKES ARE INCAPABLE OF WRITING A BAD SONG.
I love when he talks about not listening to his own music...he is so humble, and it really comes through in this interview.

You're the best Hanan (and Klein).
I read in an interview back in 07, I think, that Julian said his favorite song to play was Ize of the World and the one from ISI he liked the best was Hard to Explain. Lyrically, though, I think YOLO is right up there. From a musicianship standpoint, I can understand how he's so proud of ROF (the WEHappened solo, the chords in Reptilia and a fucking reggae song without an upbeat).
Thank you for this, it made my night. BUT WHERE IS THE ALBERT QUESTION!!!
(Now a bit of greed: Did Julian do an int with Zane Lowe? Do you have it?)
I never heard Jules say that about Ize of the World, but I figured, because they played it so much on their FiOE tour! and it was never even a single!
question, Eric, why do you call Is This It ISI? wouldn't it be ITI?
I thought the same about Albert, but I actually appreciated that the interviewer didn't ask him (for Jules' sake), because you could tell that the guy totally adored Jules and didn't wanna put him in an awkward position. Jules did mention that the band "wasn't ready" which I thought he meant as Albert...
when he said "I'm in California" my heart fluttered a bit.
I think he did do one with Zane and I've been trying to hunt it down, I'll post if I find it. the interview Zane did with Albert and Nick for RoF is one of my favourites though (it's in a bar).
I call Is This It ISI because I'm a moron and I never realized I did that until just. It's like how I I spelled religion "religon" up until I was a sophomore in college. I'm a dope.
Anyway, I understand why he didn't ask the Albert question directly (though he gave the opportunity for Julian to say that Albert is in rehab, though it could just be scheduling stuff). The interviewer was probably told it was off limits by Julian's management and if he wants more interviews with top-flight musicians, he has to respect their wishes.
The one thing that stands out about the interview was that Julian sounds really happy and really, really nice.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!
I love love love that he said I'll Try Anything Once was one of his favorites. I adore that song.
He really did sound good.
This is great! It is great to hear from Jules again! I thought the interviewer was great. It is so funny Jules even makes the professional radio personalities giddy with excitement.
I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THE SONG REDL IGHT, ITS ONE OF MY FAVES ON FIRST IMPRESSIONS!!!!!!!!!!
hey metric covered 'the end has no end' on australian radio station triple j, the other day, you can download from the site, the flash player is fairly lame and wont play. but if you download it, you can listen to an acoustic version of gimme sympathy as well.

It's true! Check it out! Hanan I'll email you
"Of the band's five members, Casablancas – the singer and chief songwriter – was the mystery observers most wanted to crack. He was often self-critical, mostly drunk, and had all manner of unpredictable musical influences. Things are different now (though his influences are just as hard to predict – when asked which song he would most like to have written, he cites a funeral march by Benjamin Britten). He's sober, his own much-awaited album, Phrazes For the Young, is coming out, and his wife, Juliet, is five months pregnant.
"Lately," he says after we've found a diner to sit in, "everything feels very… both weird and exciting. So I try not to think about it that much. I'll assess it a little later on and then see which one took hold, the weirdness or the excitement.""

"He has dyed black hair with an orange-blond streak"
Haha not that I'd love him any less, just sort of made me curious and was never expanded on.
