Sunday Morning Covers

ZIP FILE

John Mayer - Free Fallin' (Tom Petty Cover) [mp3]

both of these songs are from his 2008 live album, Live in Los Angeles. I really quite like it, Mr. Mayer is an impressive guitarist on his own merit and does good covers too.

ah, this brings back memories...of two years ago haha

I cannot stand the original song but this is really fucking cool. he has a cello and everything.

Fuzzbox is just great.

a gem that recently surfaced the internet.

BONUS:
the latest installment in the musical recreation project. my favourite so far has been its predecessor, "Venus in Furs" but this one is pretty amazing. it's jangly and surprisingly kid-friendly, methinks.

Fine songs, thank You!
Ceremony is a New Order Song, not Joys Division btw...

thanks, I've updated it. sometimes songs are mislabeled when I download them, and it's hard to keep track of everything.

Hey Hanan,

Just wanted to say that your blog is awesome.

Have you been able to find a downloadable MP3 of the Record Club cover of Venus in Furs? I haven't, and it's making me sad.

Cheers,

Ed

thanks for the kind words, Ed. no, I haven't, but I'm still on the lookout. if I find it, I'll be sure to post it. it makes me sad, too, because Venus in Furs is probably my favourite track off of VU's debut album and the record club did a wonderful job with it.

Beck covered "Venus in Furs"? That is probably my favorite Velvet Underground song ever (although I don't know all that much of their music... I went through a phase in high school where I listened to this song on repeat for weeks. I am definitely going to go back and listen to more of their stuff now)...

Did you post that cover in an earlier post? Could you reactivate the link for me if so? Since I am traveling I have not been able to get online to read my blogs as often as I would like... meaning that unfortunately I have missed a lot of great stuff! I usually read through the old posts even if the links have expired, but I must have missed that one...

Thanks, your blog is awesome and I have been spreading the word to my friends.

well Beck (and a group of other musicians including Devendra Banhart) are releasing a track a week from the Velvet Underground's debut.

I don't have an mp3, but you can listen to it here: http://vimeo.com/5528084

the Velvet Underground are great. I love all of their albums. they're one of the few bands that I can turn to for consistency and all-around goodness.

Ahh The Section Quartet! I loved their version of 'Juicebox' especially :)

I quite liked the Beck and friends cover of 'Venus In Furs' but I still didn't think it was a patch on the original. Only listened to it once though; worth giving it more of a chance?

their cover of Juicebox got me to buy their cd. damn good purchase if I do say so meself.

oh yeah, it doesn't scrape the original (nothing ever will) but yeah, I'd listen to it a couple more times if I were you (I've listened to it maybe 14 or 15 times and like it more each time)

Thanks for the link, Hanan... hmm, I see what you mean Tara. It grew on me more by the end but definitely pales in comparison to the original. I'll have to keep listening to it... I am putting on The Velvet Underground & Nico right now :)

I think it's OK to call Ceremony a Joy Division song. The words were written by Ian Curtis and the band did play it live. However, the song was first released after Curtis' death under the New Order name.
