the new album is decent on its own merit, but comparatively to their roots, it's just awful. now excuse me while I go cry and listen to Cage the Elephant instead. if they go stadium rock in a few years, I will kill myself.

I have to agree with you they have change quite a bit but I still love them the same as I did back in high school when they came out. I just saw them at the forum in LA last Saturday and I was happy to meet die hard fans that have been there since the start and know all their previous work unlike the bunch of people who went to see them based on sex on fire and use somebody. But you are totally right their first two LP's are just awesome and I can't stop listening to them, so cheer up at least we have those two records to look back to.
well I saw them a couple of months ago and they were really good, but they didn't play many of their old songs, which makes me sad. I wish they'd try to expose EVERYONE to their older music, but that's a bit ambitiuos of me to wish for. I still like them a lot, but part of me wishes they could stay the same forever.
oh, and the same thing happened to me, the die hard fans were there, right alongside me. I went to that gig like 8 hours early to snag a front row spot. I had full view of Caleb during the whole show.
I was just happy that they played red morning light and four kicks, which are my favorite songs from them. I'm just so glad that there are still people like you out there that apreciate good music.
The Followill four-piece are also hoping to preview some new tracks, alongside some forgotten hits on the summer festival circuit following the phenomenal success of their 2008 smash Only by the Night.
Caleb explained: "I think it's up to us to keep our heads on straight and try to make an album that's better than the last. And I don't necessarily mean one that has pop hits on it or anything. "Right now Kings Of Leon have a real chance to cement themselves into our generation as a great band and we all realise we still have a long way to go. We got lucky with this record. Every day is a challenge to do better things. "Obviously for us it would be a thrill to be able to go up there and play something new, although I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. We've been trying stuff that we haven't tried in a while, pulling old songs out. It's amazing, it's like riding a bike. We have old songs which I've been so scared to play because I knew we would fall on our face, but it just comes right back to you."
The rocker added that the band's new material is "fast, hard-rocking and different", but that he didn't want to encourage other band's to follow suit in case it doesn't work out.
He told NME magazine: "There's such an edge to what we're doing right now.
"You know, I've written a couple of songs that crossed over and people actually hear them and sing them, but I might shy away from that on the next one. Who knows? Actually, right now we're writing pretty fast songs and some pretty hard-rocking songs. "Structurally, they're really different from anything out there - a lot of them don't even have a chorus. "Other bands have been complimenting us on the fact that we're trying to step outside of the box. "I don't think a song has to be verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, double chorus. But who knows? "I don't want to encourage it, I don't want someone to get dropped from their label for having a 45-minute slow jam."
and to Nadia, I AM SO INCREDIBLY JEALOUS. they played four kicks, but even though the ENTIRE NIGHT I WAS BEGGING FOR RED MORNING LIGHT, they didn't play it. it is absolutely my favourite by them.
one last thing, I'm glad there are people like YOU who appreciate that I appreciate good music. in my opinion, my good music taste is the best thing about me, and nobody seems to care.
When they played those two songs our little section of die hard fans went crazy we enjoyed every second of it. We did not stop singing and dancing the whole night, i really wanted to hear Arizona but they did not play it :( Im sure that you have other good qualities other than your taste in music. Im just so happy that there is someone out there that loves KOL and the Strokes as much as i do. My friends don't understand my obsession, but you do which makes me feel like im not the only one thats crazy about them. Btw did you see that little article on Rolling Stone about Jule's new album? Im sure you did but i just want to make sure.
haha yes the same thing happened in my section, but during Molly's Chambers and The Bucket. yeah I saw the new RS but thanks for making sure =) I feel the same way. I'm so glad I thought of daily Strokes posts, because the responses I get reassure me that I'm not crazy (well I am, but that's another issue), that the Strokes are completely worthy of the quasi-worship I devote to them.
PS you have the same name as my mum, who likes to piss me off by saying "I hope The Strokes die" whenever she's pissed at me. good to know that not all Nadias are evil.
I'm also glad for the daily Strokes post, they have kept me sane and happy until the new album comes out. I can't wait for Jules to start touring, if he comes to so Cal I am so there. That's so funny that your moms name is Nadia too, I don't know anyone with my name so that's cool. What do you do to make her so angry? Nobody should say those things, not even as a joke : )
Nadia I agree. it's when she gets mad about stupid things, none of it is warranted. she just knows they're the five most important people in my life. I know that's kinda weird but whatever, I worship their art.
and electricskeleton, that is just sickening. I hate remixes so much
I dont think thats weird, they are pretty important to me too but i would also have to include the followills in that list of people. I cant stand remixes why do they take a great song and kill it?

Apparently Kings of Lean are releasing a remix album. Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?
