CONTEST: win a free album of your choice!

first off, I'd like to apologize for the ads on my site. I should have more integrity than that, I know, but here is the consolation:

when I signed up for the MOG network, I did so with two intentions:
a. to get my site exposed to more people
b. to use the revenue to give away music that I love.

so here's the dealio. I am offering five readers any of the albums from my favourite album list. from the top ten or from the honourable mentions. vinyl or cd. anywhere in the world.

so leave a comment below, tell me how you found Music Induced Euphoria, and good luck to everyone!

winners will be announced in one month, on the 30th of December.

UPDATE:
in addition to the five albums I'm giving away, I will also give away five copies of the Telekinesis album. so if you want that one, make sure you mention it in your response.

I found MEU trough erik's blog The ripcord, which I had been reading for some time. I just fell in love with it because of the daily strokes post, I'm really lazy so this was perfect for me cause I could get the news I wanted without going to the forums and stuff. I have most of those albums thanks to you and your reviews, but not all of them : )

I found Music Induced Euphoria through the Ripcord as well. Just a simple chain reaction of Strokes-related sites. But I also love all of the other music featured. It keeps me updated, and someday when I have the money I assure you I will sift through the archives and buy all the albums you so rightfully recommended. Given the recent holiday, consider this a belated Thank You!

I search google blogs often. I found you while searching for Elliott Smith info. I found you again while blog searching the killers. I figured i'd bookmark your page since you post about all of my favorite artists. I now check your blog daily because of your great posts!

i found the site through something or other, and i thought it was nice that you werent quite so much of a creepster weirdy as the forums people. although i think you are still a bit of a creepster weirdy, so i hypothesize that this whole thing is an excuse to get my address because you want some of that beard action

I was on youtube and I searched for Julian performing in SF. I saw your comment on how you were that girl who jumped on stage and I clicked your username. Then I saw your website, clicked your website and that's it. I was really entertained by the story of how that creepy old chick got the same tattoo and username as you.

I found you from Eric too. Strokes lovers unite!

Edith said...

Ha, wow. I found you through Eric's page too, but know I'm killing myself trying to remember how I found his page.

I found this page on the day you made the strokes post #4, and I was like, "#4?, you mean there's more strokes posts???" Then I saw the little introduction you posted as to why you will be posting strokes posts everyday, and I loved it!

Hanan, you are an amazing blogger and you have introduced me to so much good music, I can't thank you enough!

I am so glad to know there is someone who has so much love and commitment for the strokes (in a non-creepy way).

Cheers to you :)

I found this MIE using the Hype Machine searching for some song (i can't remember what).. anywhoo, i read most of the posts you had written within the past few days and realized that i liked pretty much every band you wrote about. I then proceeded to act like a crazy person and go through the archives and read almost all of the old posts.. even those most of the song links no longer worked. Yeah, now i check this almost daily.
... and i'll just jump on the bandwagon and say how much I like The Strokes.. a lot.

I found this, as I've told you, through the post about "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". And the I was like WOAH THIS GUY LIKES THE STROKES, and then later, WOAH I GUESS THIS GUY IS GAY BECAUSE HE REALLLLLLY LIKES THE STROKES, and then OH IT'S A GIRL, OKAY??...

How did Telekinesis beat PftY? Is it good?

I found MIE through searching for Strokes stuff. This is like the Strokes motherload. It really sucks not to have people to talk to about music/Strokes obsession and I found that this blog feels like a little community to have collective freakouts with for certain moments (ie. Phrazes announcement, Strokesgate 2009 (are they gonna do another album) and finally FESTIVALS FOR SUMMER 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Anonymous said...

PS. I am very curious now about this Telekinesis album.
PPS. The Strokes + this blog aka on the list of what I am thankful for this yearrrr!!!

Anonymous said...

hahahaha! I thought Hanan was a boy at first too. I had completely forgotten! Wow, good memories.

Yes, Telekinesis

I remember the first time I came on your blog was after you left a comment on my Best Albums of 2007 post talking about Albert's first album. I was so excited to find someone who actually knew about him. And then I saw that you had awesome taste in music, so that helped =-)

Olivia said...

I also found your site through Ripcord. At first I checked your site out every once and a while, but when I found out you did frequent Strokes posts, I started checking every day. Your an insanely good writer and I think you should be hired as a music journalist PRONTO! Your taste in music is great and thank you so much for all the great music you post, and especially the Strokes updates!

I found Music Induced Euphoria through hype and countless google searches (It kept popping up so I figured I should bookmark it).
I LOVE this blog.
I love it so much that its become a part of my morning routine: wake at 7AM, breakfast at 7:15AM, MIE at 7:20AM, and out the door by 7:30AM.
I would not have been able to enjoy the greatness that is Humbug or Phrazes without this blog, for that I am eternally grateful.

Also, you've somehow managed to combine three of my favorite things in the whole world: contests, freebies, and vinyl. Woo!

Little Gray Pixel said...

Love this contest! I have all these CDs, so I'd have to say I'd like Phrazes for the Young on vinyl if I should win. (And of course I wouldn't turn down the chance for Telekinesis on vinyl, too). I first found you on the Hype Machine when I was looking for a certain song (who knows which one now). Then I checked out your archives, added you to my Google Reader list, and the rest is history.

I kept stumbling on MIE when I searched for Delta Spirit, Andrew Bird and Franz Ferdinand song, thought to myself, "This place is pretty cool!", then Hanan came and commented on a post about Hockey I made on my blog and it was done, I've been on MIE almost every day for almost a year since then!

allie said...

hey joe! aint gonna lie, your huurrr is tight.

bruce said...

I was looking for blogs about Delta Spirit on Hype Machine, and I found yours. Then I saw that you were posting about the strokes EVERYDAY. Snap. Like, interviews, photos, videos. Couldn't believe it. That sealed the deal. Been subscribed ever since. The only music blog that I read EVERY post.

Searching for some juicy strokes content! Found the site on google, cried with joy.

I was on some website which had written about Bombay Bicycle Club, and there was a comment from someone called Hanan saying she kept meaning to listen to them. I clicked on her blog but then for some reason didn't get the chance to have a read - think I was about to go out or something.

So I completely forgot about it, and then a while after I was on The Modern Age, which I used to love as she seemed so into the Strokes, and none of my friends were massive fans so it was cool to see what was going on. Then I saw a comment from this Hanan person again and was like "huh, that's familiar". And then on her blog she was explaining the concept behind her new feature, something called a 'Strokes Post'. It sounds like some cheesy commercial, but I can honestly say I've never looked back ;)

Thank you for doing what you do!

I found Music Induced Euphoria through the Hype Machine and my insane love for The Strokes. All those bootlegs and videos of The Strokes made me a regular visitor. The themed mixes and new band posts made me a permanent reader! :) If you chose me as one of the lucky 5, I'd love the Arctic Monkeys album (and I can't refuse Telekinesis). I gotta thank you for being my news source for all things The Strokes! Keep on bloggin' :D

pps. Telekinesis? Hells yeah.

I found MIE because of the Strokes (I know, sounds cliche). But I stayed for everything past the Strokes -although I love the daily post, keep it up until the next album is out and beyond.

But more importantly, MIE inspored me to start my own blog. I still haven't found my voice, but I'm just posting what I like, what's new, and what I find. Maybe it'll evolve to something else, but check it out:

Shameless plug, I know, but I did create it because I love this blog so much.

I found you through Hype Machine many months back and eventually added you to my RSS reader - I don't remember which songs brought me here, I have a vague idea of Joy Division but that sounds wrong.

Listening to the Julian Casablancas now on LaLa, would like to win that!

Thanks for what you share with us.

Hey MIE; I discovered (and won't be the last) your site through a recent post on the music blog @ the New Yorker [http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/movies/2009/11/best-films-of-the-decade.html].

I scanned through and found the live bootleg from the Strokes and am stoked to hear it.

Keep up the fandom.

Currently listening to Alexis Taylor's cover of "Coming Up".

THE ONE MAGICAL WEEKEND I WAS ALMOST COOL

I was only able to afford three concerts this summer, and i was lucky to make the choices i did.

It all started with seeing death cab on a perfect so cal summer sunday, at the hollywood bowl playing with the los angeles philharmonic and fire works leftover from the 4th of july. and with tegan and sara and the new pornos opening, it was to that point the best concert i had ever been to. Although i never found my real seat; i stayed against the back wall, not knowing i would be moving closer to the stage over the week.

The next friday i got to see andrew bird at the greek theatre hollywood, i found my seat perfectly center in the audience. with heartless bastards, and ra ra riot kicking things off, i knew i was in for a good night. What i had not anticipated was just how much magic is created when andrew bird is allowed to entertain. he has power over the night sky, as effigy started i looked up to the stars, and i saw a white siberian tiger in the clouds, and as the steel guitar started ringing, two stars lined up perfectly center in the eyes of the magic cat. i had to ask the people around me if i was tripping. (although i had enough port for that to be a real possibility, my neighbors saw it too) im sure mr birds powers were only made stronger after the crowd sang him happy birthday a day early.

instead of heading home and allowing the magic of that night to fully sink in, my mom and i started heading north to the greek berkley, for what would turn out to be the coolest couple of hours of my life, which would include my fateful meeting of the source of MIE, the beautiful hanan.

this concert wouldn't confine me to a seat as it was general admission, luckily the drive went pretty quickly and we were in line by about noon. it was in that line that i started talking to a cute girl with glasses that looked strikingly similar to mine, and ill never forget the feeling in my gut of finding someone with such similar tastes in music. ill never forget that she said "thank god for sadam, because if it wasnt for him i wouldnt be american" -i still doubt ill ever hear a more awesome quote.

After a few pleasant hours in line (which felt like it flew by, once i started talking with the girl with the cute curls) we made it to the pit (from back to front, accomplished.) ra ra riot was fun, but andrew had more of that birthday magic to spread around; minutes after he started playing it began to rain, and not intimidating soak everyone to the bone rain, but just enough to cool the crowd down and remind everyone that we were listening to music without ceilings, and just enough to give us a rainbow for us to sing him happy birthday under.
and if that wasnt enough, death cab came in to wrap stuff up.

as the crowd dispersed i asked my new friend if i could stay in contact with her, and she replied "yeah, check out my blog- music induced euphoria"

the rest as they say is history.

Living in little old New Zealand, home of the mighty Veils and Mint Chicks and Liam Finn etc, we seem to dip out on major artists touring here regularly. Can't blame them, we are at the ass end of the planet. But why?! We have such a beautiful country.

Alas, I found MIE one night whilst back home from uni, as I was desperately searching for a leaked copy of Julian's album.

You won't believe my luck when I found links to it on this amazing blog. It quickly became my most read music blog, every little Strokes tidbit made my day that much better.

So thank you Hanan, thank you very much!

Hello. I cam across your site this summer when i decided the entire 2 months and 11 days expanding my musical knowledge. So what I did was I spent every day listening to NME radio from 7 am-2 am, just about, and sending Ian Brown e-mails so he could send me the Downloads of the Day. One Monday your blog appeared in the pack with your Sunday morning covers. There were covers by Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, The Last Shadow Puppets and Elliott Smith amongst others. I thought "Jackpot!" and downloaded them all. I came back to your blog everyday since then and rediscovered The Strokes. Your first post with 'New York City Cops' with Julian and the cigarette in his hand did nothing short of CHANGING MY LIFE. I now wear only skinny jeans. But thats what the point is not. You introduced me to the most revolutionary band of the decade which...probabaly means something. I love your blog and I love reading what you have to say. I also love San Francisco and I'm planning to attend Berkeley in 2 years. Yup. Thank you.

Hello,

My name is Shayan and I am writing this post today for the contest that you have. Sorry for being so formal with the introduction, that was the only way that I could think of starting it off. But, to actually answer the question, I found Music Induced Euphoria while looking for some new music out on the internet. I cannot remember exactly what I was looking for, but I ended up landing on your blog. I just remember starting to look through the blog and remembering seeing your first strokes post. I remember reading that you would post something new for the strokes everyday until a new album came out. That is what automatically hooked me to the site. But, the reason why I got hooked to the site was not to see the new content about the strokes being posted. It was to see if someone could post material that I have never seen before and you have managed to do so. I never thought that anyone could love this band as much as I could and you have seemed to match me in every way. I don't want to come off here as a Strokes know it all, but as soon as I started listening to them I was automatically hooked. I have been emailing you for the past couple of days talking about the Strokes and Julian's new music video. I think that I deserve being one of the top 5 because I think we share some of the same tastes in the way that we listen to their music. It brings us happiness and comfort in a way that no other can touch. I know that this contest was about talking about how we first came to see your blog, but when I talk about the strokes I get carried away. So, I hope that you find this post entertaining and that you do pick me as one of the top 5

I was at the Julian Casablancas show in San Francisco, waiting around for my girlfriend to show up, when you told me I looked lonely. We got into a conversation about The Strokes (your new 12:51 tat), The White Stripes, record shopping, being vinyl junkies and what not. Later during the show I was zoning out on a guitar solo, when I noticed you running onto the stage. You hugged Julian, and I realized you really were a crazy Strokes super fan. I didn't see you after the show, but the next day I was reading a message board and people were talking about the "famed Strokes blogger" who jumped onto the stage and hugged Julian. They posted a link to your blog, and I've been reading it almost daily since then. Keep it up!

Unknown said...

PS I would really like to check out that Telekinesis album. I think that was the only one on your list that I had never heard of.
